Welcome new dancers to the company!

Borealis Dance is proud to announce four new members to the company.
Rae Flores: Rae has performed with Victoria Ballet Theatre, Austin Contemporary Ballet, Incarnate Word and Texas State. Rae holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of Tampa.
Ellen Thomas: Ellen is a recent graduate of Sam Houston State University where she studied dance and Spanish. While in college she studied under Kista Tucker, Andy Noble, and Dionne Sparkmen Noble.
Jennifer Weitz: Jennifer has a B.A. of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa. She has danced with Ballet East since moving to Austin. She is studying Thai boxing and wushu/kung fu and has recently placed first at Golden State Wushu Championships for traditional straight sword (jian shu).
Angela Wicker-Ramos: Angela was a member of Youth Ballet Theater of Austin and Austin Dance Ensemble and trained with Ballet Austin. She received a minor in dance at the University of Texas at Austin with her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology.

Borealis Dance proudly announces they have been invited to perform at ARTcade, a local art show that includes visual art, performance art,
fashion and make up. This is made possible by RAW: Natural Born Artists.
RAW's mission is to provide up-and-coming artists of all creative realms with the tools, resources and exposure needed to inspire and cultivate creativity so that they might be seen, heard and loved. RAW educates, connects and exposes emerging artists in 22 artistic communities nationwide through monthly showcase events.

Thanks to everyone who came out to support us. "The Commute" was well received. We're now busy working on our next show "Who Are We?" which we will premiere in late May. Stay tuned for more details.

Borealis Dance will be performing a new original work as part of Frontera Fest on February 4, 8:00pm. This piece is inspired
by the Monday morning commute on the New York City Metro.

Borealis Dance is performing in 10 Minutes Max! August 19th and 20th at 8:00 pm.

Dance Umbrella will present its annual showcase of new works by local and Texas artists in 10 Minutes Max. Over 80 artists will share the stage at the Carver’s Boyd Vance Theatre in four different programs. From solos to large groups - dancers and live bands - flamenco to tap - fusion and modern – exploration and interpretation – premieres of new works to premieres of new Austin dance companies, 10 Minutes Max has something for everyone! Performances are Thursday and Friday at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., August 19th – 21st. More information and tickets are available online at danceumbrella.com.

"Love Stories" This Weekend

Just a friendly reminder that the close of our first season is this weekend. "Love Stories" is about how people fall in love, what they fall in love with, and what love means to them. Borealis Dance has collaborated with local artists Mark Zell and Javier Bonafont to bring video and photography into the mix. We also have guest choreographer Anuradha Naimpally, creative director of Austin Dance India, who has created a new work for Borealis Dance. We are excited to have them!

HeART of Austin Event to Unite The Performing Arts Community

Dance Umbrella will host the HeART of Austin, an arts community social event on Sunday, January 24 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the American Legion, 2201 West 1st Street.
 The HeART of Austin is a social networking event for dancers, choreographers, performing & visual artists, musicians, lighting & sound designers, technicians and supporters. Austin choreographer Danielle Ricci who has helped organize the event stated, “The idea of having a gathering for not just dancers and choreographers, but including lighting designers, artists, and musicians, and technical people so everyone can meet other people in the industry. I have been around directors of companies and they have mentioned how they need a lighting designer or a sound tech. I also think it is important for the arts community to collaborate together.”
